STAR-STUDDED EVENT SHOWS KIDS IT'S FUN TO GET FIT, EAT RIGHT, LIVE LIFE (G.E.L.)

October 16 & 17, 2007 (Toronto) Pro sports stars and Olympic athletes, as well as local performers, will join educators and fitness experts in a fun, lively interactive event aimed at showing kids how fun it is to get and stay fit through exercise, nutrition and other lifestyle choices.

The Get fit, Eat right, Live life (G.E.L.) - Healthier Youth Campaign 2007 launch is expected to draw nearly 5,000 students aged 8 - 16 when it runs OCTOBER 16 & 17, 2007, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 pm, at the Genesis Banquet & Convention Centre in Woodbridge.

The two-day event is a celebration of the benefits of healthy lifestyle choices from a uniquely youth perspective, featuring kid-friendly interactive exhibits with underground music by popular local DJ Mic Perri - aka MC Flipside - and performances by basketball and soccer tricksters, as well as engaging keynote speakers, along with team members from the Toronto Raptors and the Argos.

Students can expect to try out the fun, mock obstacle course or the live aerobics class and get a hands-on education about healthy food that tastes good through the interactive kitchen demonstration.

G.E.L is a federally incorporated non-for-profit body with the mandate to educate and motivate Canadian youth to make healthy lifestyle choices in order to prevent childhood obesity and its associated risks.

The event, which is curriculum-based, will advocate proper nutrition, weight management, self-esteem, body image, and, of course, exercise.

Along with the G.E.L event, the geltogether.org website will celebrate the successes of schools that have taken the steps to implement the G.E.L mandate through the G.E.L. ACHIEVERS program.
